The first matches took place on October 17, 2009. After three group stages, two semi final matches were set. Ward defeated Abraham in the first, held on May 14, 2011. Froch defeated Johnson in the second, held on June 4, 2011. After Froch defeated Johnson, he was elevated to the number 2 rating by Ring Magazine. With Ward being rated number 1, the finals will pit the number 1 and number 2 fighters against one another. This allows for the Ring title vacancy to be filled at the tournament finals.

The stakes couldn’t be higher, the drama more intense. On December 17, two confident reigning world champions–one from America, the other from Europe–will collide in the eagerly awaited Super Six World Boxing Classic Final, a World Championship Unification.  When the Super Six began, neither undefeated World Boxing Association (WBA) super middleweight champion Andre Ward (24-0, 13 KOs), of Oakland, Calif., nor his World Boxing Council (WBC) counterpart, Carl Froch (28-1, 20 KOs), of Nottingham, England, were among the favorites. But through career-defining fights and remarkable drama both in and out of the ring, Ward and Froch have persevered and emerged as prominent members of boxing’s exclusive Pound-for-Pound list and are now poised for global stardom. Tickets are $302, $202, $102 and $51. All tickets purchased for the original event date will be honored on Dec. 17. If ticket holders are not able to attend on Dec. 17, refunds are available at the point of purchase.

Ricky Burns takes on Andreas Evensen for the WBO super-featherweight title at Braehead Arena. Burns takes an easy first title defense after his shocking upset of Roman Martinez in a great fight earlier in the year. Evensen is a 13-1 Norseman who has fought mostly out of Finland, and whose lone loss came to Benoit Gaudet. Fellow Scotchman Appleby was knocked out by Martin Lindsay last year to end a meteoric rise, and this is his first decent opponent since that loss. It's hard to tell much about Laryea, who doesn't look like much on paper, but a lot of Ghanians don't have complete records on Boxrec and he's at least good enough to have won their national super featherweight title. It appears the goal may be to set up a fight between Burns and Appleby, which would be a huge fight in Scotland.

It's been well over a year since Dimitrenko was embarrassed by Eddie Chambers, but this fight should at least help tell us whether he's still a viable contender in a weak heavyweight division. He'll defend his European title against Sosnowski, who was recently destroyed by Vitali Klitschko. I would say that the winner might be in line for a title shot, but Dimitrenko has expressed that he has little interest in fighting a Klitschko at this time, and nobody wants to see Sosnowski get shellacked again. If time runs short, Juan Carlos Gomez, Manuel Charr and Christian Hammer are all slated to fight on the card as well.
